Covid 19 Compositions
In April 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, I embarked on an ambitious project to create an album serving three functions: the album would have 19 tracks, all my own compositions; it would raise money for the charity Help Musicians who provided invaluable support for musicians who experienced a loss of income due to lockdown; it would bring together a unique collaboration of folk musicians from around the UK who I have been lucky enough to meet and work with since I came to folk music when I was 9 years old.
These musicians have never all played in the same room together and probably never will; nor in all likelihood will they ever appear on the same CD again. A huge part of this project was bringing people together through music while we were separated by lockdown. I hope that when you listen to the album you can hear this collaborative feeling, and most importantly that you enjoy the music that these wonderful people have made with me.

Covid 19 Compositions LIVE at the Royal Albert Hall
In September 2023, I had the exciting opportunity to perform my album live for the first time at the Royal Albert Hall. This was a special one-off showcase featuring some of the musicians from Covid 19 Compositions.

Constant Ticking

Constant Ticking is a unique composition for the melodeon. Elye Cuthbertson draws heavily on minimalist techniques, while letting his natural creative voice shine through. Overlapping time cycles, additive melodies, and phase shifting are used to manipulate expectations around tension and release; yet Elye’s folk music influences and distinctive approach to the melodeon do not go unnoticed. The result is a provocative, jarring piece that is as enthralling as it is unsettling.

Two Rainy Days

Two Rainy Days was created unexpectedly in early September 2024. A few surprisingly free days at home after a busy summer of music and travel led to a strong desire to record and share some of my music.
